Making Your Mark Exhibit in Santa Fe
My monotype "Matter Stream" was chosen by the juror David Limrite to be in the show "Making Your Mark" to be held at the Encaustic Art Institute Gallery at 632 Agua Fria, Santa Fe, NM. The exhibition runs from Sept 21 - Oct 23, 2016 with the opening reception Sept 30, 5-8 PM.
From the Juror:
I chose work that best represented for me, mature and accomplished expressions of creativity, as well as, those that exhibited a mastery of encaustic. I also looked for pieces that appeared to push encaustic to its limits. I chose work that:
- felt as if it was trying to communicate something. Anything.
- appeared to express ideas, images or thoughts.
- felt personal.
- contained what I felt were marks that could have only been made by that particular artist.
- contained a high level of quality in both execution and craftsmanship.
I looked for work that made my heart respond. That woke up my soul. That peaked my interest. I looked for work that was interesting to look at, to ponder and to try and understand. Did I respond to this piece? Did it make me smile. Would I like to live with it? Did it cause me to be amazed, delighted, surprised or moved? Do I feel a connection with the artist who created it?

I'm a long-time member of the National Wildlife Federation, a conservation organization who is celebrating their 80th anniversary this year. The April/May issue of their magazine National Wildlife has a wonderful theme about gardening for wildlife including nurturing native bees.
Obama bans oil drilling along Atlantic seaboard
The Obama administration abandoned its plan for oil and gas drilling in Atlantic waters on Tuesday, after strong opposition from the Pentagon and coastal communities.
The announcement from Sally Jewell, the interior secretary, to bar drilling across the length of the mid-Atlantic seaboard reverses Obama's decision just a year ago to open up the east coast to oil and gas exploration, and consolidates his record for environmental protection.
